So many people wanted to attend a local funeral home's memorial service for pop star Michael Jackson on Thursday that a second service has been scheduled July 10.
"We thought it was appropriate for Michael because he is such a worldwide figure," said Roland J. Criswell, president of Coston Funeral Homes.
By 5 p.m. Sunday, all 125 seats had been reserved for Thursday's service at Coston's East Liberty branch. Callers from as far away as Maryland began reserving the 100 seats available for the service at 7 p.m. on July 10 at Coston's North Side location, 3313 Brighton Road. The services will also be broadcast live on Coston's Web site, www. costonfuneralhome.com. For more information, call 412-661-5916.
The services are expected to last at least 11/2 hours and will include videos and music from Jackson's career, tributes and moderated discussions on the entertainer's impact. Criswell, 31, said he has always respected Jackson for his philanthropy and contribution to music.
"I always dance when his songs come on at a party," he said. "I like to dance more to Michael's '80s music than contemporary stuff."
