Lance Armstrong and girlfriend Anna Hansen are expecting their first child together. "Anna and I are thrilled to confirm that we are expecting in June, and our families are ecstatic and grateful," Armstrong told People in a statement. "We are very much looking forward to what 2009 brings on many fronts."
He adds: "We appreciate respecting our privacy, as we are both eager to celebrate the holidays as a family."
Armstrong, 37, who won seven straight Tour de France races after battling testicular cancer, announced in September his return to professional cycling and the Tour de France next year.
He has three children with ex-wife Kristin (they divorced in 2003). The children were conceived through in vitro fertilization with sperm frozen prior to Armstrong undergoing chemotherapy. His baby with Hansen was conceived naturally, a spokeswoman for his cancer foundation told The Associated Press.
A smashed guitar from the late grunge rocker Kurt Cobain has been sold to an unidentified private collector for $100,000.
Helen Hall, a broker in England, says it's the second-highest price for an item of Cobain memorabilia. The seller was punk rocker Sluggo of The Grannies and Hullabaloo.
The sale was confirmed Tuesday by Jacob McMurray, senior curator at the Experience Music Project in Seattle, where the taped-up Fender Mustang guitar in sunburst finish was displayed for a time.
Sluggo said he traded a working guitar for the smashed one during the first U.S. tour of Cobain's band, Nirvana. A news release from Hall said the highest price paid for a piece of Cobain memorabilia was $131,000 at a 2006 auction for his Mosrite Gospel Mark IV guitar. (Associated Press)
