With two or more episodes per day running on The Disney Channel, you might think your average 'tween girl wouldn't be interested in rushing out to grab "Hannah Montana: The Complete First Season," the new four-disc collector's set containing all 26 episodes of the 2006-2007 season (Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment, $39.99). But it would be hard to underestimate the enthusiasm kids show for this series, which follows the adventures of Miley Stewart (Miley Cyrus), an ordinary Malibu teenager (there's a phrase), who moonlights as pop superstar Hannah Montana.
The only difference between Miley and Hannah is a blond wig. But in the G-rated world of Disney, that's enough to fool friends at Seaview Middle School episode after silly episode. What's particularly fun about this collection -- other than getting to watch your favorite episode on demand -- is seeing a fresh-faced Miley before she morphed into one of the world's biggest teenaged superstars.
As for the bonus features, well, they're pretty pathetic. While a seven-minute video of Miley and dad Billy Ray Cyrus walking around their Nashville farm is kind of fun, the bonus 2008 Disney Channel Games Kickoff Episode is nothing more than a giant commercial for Disney's other stars. (Miley isn't even one of the contestants!) And select episodes with pop-up "Hannah Highlights" were little more than blips on the screen.
